Volunteer FAQs

How do I sign up to volunteer?

Complete WRP Online application for adults or for youth at worthingtonresourcepantry.org/apply. If you do not have access to the internet, you may contact the WRP by phone and we will send you an application. Once we review your application, we will contact you about your areas of interest and how to schedule your volunteer time.

Can I just show up or do I need to schedule in advance?

All assignments must be scheduled in advance on the electronic scheduling platform, WhenToHelp.com so that we can plan for volunteers to complete needed tasks. New volunteers will be emailed instructions for creating an account and signing on to WhenToHelp.

My organization would like to volunteer as a group, can that be arranged?

We welcome groups! Contact Christa Passafiume, Director of Operations.

How old do you have to be to volunteer?

Youth must be between 14 – 17 years of age to volunteer at the pantry by themselves. The child and parent must complete and sign a WRP volunteer application. Children or youth under the age of 14 are not allowed to volunteer without prior approval.

May I bring my child with me when I volunteer?

Due to the limited space and safety concerns, adult volunteers are not permitted to bring their children or youth to the pantry during the adult volunteer’s shift without prior approval.

What do I wear when volunteering?

If you are working with neighbors, we ask that you wear modest, comfortable casual clothes. Wear comfortable shoes as you may be on your feet most of the shift. We require closed-toed shoes (e.g. NO sandals, flip flops, or open-toed high heels). Because of the continuous lifting and repacking, we also recommend not wearing loose jewelry like rings, watches, or necklaces. You may also want to wear layers because temperatures in the building vary.

Where are you located?

Worthington Resource Pantry, 6700 Huntley Rd, Columbus, Ohio, The WRP is located near the northeast corner of Huntley and Schrock Roads.

Is there parking?

Yes, however, parking is limited; we encourage you to carpool when possible. Please park only in the areas designated for volunteers.

What will I be doing?

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities including: sorting, inspecting and repacking food donations, stocking shelves, bagging food, greeting families, answering their questions, and helping families choose their groceries. You may assist with administrative duties, direct families to available resources, participate in food drives and work on special projects.
