Volunteer Spotlight: Farmers Market Volunteers

This month we are honoring our Farmer’s Market Team Volunteers, Denise and Greg Applegate, Barry Bennett, Kathie Bradenburg, John Rachfal, Mary Patty Robeson, Mary Rykowski, and Steve Scalise.

The team shares that the first year they collected donations from the Farmers Market was in 2007. At that time, there was no community pantry, but three area churches had food pantries and donations were split between each pantry. This collaborative spirit laid the foundation for what was to come.

In 2009, the team hit the ground running as the Worthington Resource Pantry opened. Farmers Market donations provided much-needed operating money for the Pantry. The dedication of our volunteers has ensured a continuous, meaningful connection between the Pantry and our community. As one of our long-time volunteers Barry Bennett shared, "I continue participating in our Farmers Market program because it provides a needed weekly interface between the Pantry and our community; we pick up a bit of money, and, as a personal benefit, we get to spend Saturday mornings greeting and conversing with all our neighbors."

The commitment and enthusiasm of our Farmer’s Market team have not only supported our Pantry but have also strengthened our community bonds. Thank you for your incredible dedication and for making a difference every Saturday morning.
