Volunteer Spotlight - Phyllis Funk

This month we are featuring Phyllis Funk - a fantastic volunteer who serves as a Manager and Lead Receiver making sure our donations are organized and ready to serve to our neighbors.

Phyllis began volunteering at Worthington Resource Pantry just one week after retiring—a decision she says she’d always wanted to make but never had the time for while working. “I knew it was something I wanted to do,” Phyllis shared, “and retirement finally gave me the opportunity.”

Growing up in a household where the cost of food was a concern, Phyllis understands the stress that comes with worrying about having enough. Though she never personally faced food insecurity, her desire to help others is deeply rooted in those experiences. "I hate seeing hungry people," she says, "and I want to do whatever I can to help."

Phyllis treasures the sense of community and connection at the pantry. “The Pantry brings people together,” she said. “I love the support and the feeling of being part of something bigger.”

We’re so grateful for Phyllis and volunteers like her who make our work possible!
